the stakes

What's at stake?

Columbus State Community College is central Ohio's largest engine of workforce training and affordable higher education. This levy decides whether that engine keeps running at full strength for the next generation of students, employers, and neighborhoods — or whether it gets scaled back at the worst possible moment. Final opening copy from the campaign team will be dropped in here.

If it passes

  • Columbus State keeps tuition low and accessible for working families.
  • Workforce training expands in nursing, IT, and skilled trades.
  • Classrooms, labs, and equipment stay modern and job-ready.

If it fails

  • Tuition and fees rise, pricing out students who need college most.
  • Program cuts shrink the pipeline of trained local workers.
  • Deferred maintenance accelerates and services scale back.

the basics

What is the levy?

Here's what voters are actually deciding — the size, the term, and the real cost to a homeowner.

Millage

A modest millage rate designed to sustain core operations without overreach.

Term length

A fixed multi-year term with a defined end date — not permanent.

Cost to homeowner

Estimated at roughly the price of a cup of coffee per week for the average home.

How it's calculated

Property taxes apply to assessed value (35% of market value), then the millage rate — not to your full home price.

the moment

Why this is needed now

Central Ohio is growing faster than its workforce can keep up. At the same time, prior revenue sources are expiring, operating costs are climbing, and demand for training and student services keeps rising. Without renewed local support, Columbus State faces a real funding gap — one that quickly turns into program cuts, deferred maintenance, and fewer seats for the students employers are counting on.

  • • Funding gap
  • • Rising costs
  • • Service demand
  • • Expiring revenue
  • • Deferred maintenance
  • • Population growth

our commitment

Accountability & oversight

Every dollar raised by this levy is subject to independent financial audits, published annual reports, and oversight from a publicly accountable Board of Trustees. Voters can see exactly how funds are spent — and hold the college to the promises made during this campaign.
